I am so happy to share this blog post with you. I hope this is the beginning of something that I have wanted to do for awhile now. This is my first official “Day in the Life” photo session. I absolutely love candid/documentary family photos. My background is in photojournalism so I’ve always been a fan of photo stories. Not a lot of words, no posing, just documenting a day in the life of a family. Let the images tell the tale.
I was THRILLED that the Madden family was my first Day in the Life photo shoot. I’ve photographed this family for a few years now and I absolutely adore the Maddens. Jasmyn and Sean have always been a fan of my candid photography so I knew they would enjoy this type of session. They wanted to remember this special time in their kid’s life and wanted to document their morning routine. That’s exactly what I did. I showed up around 7 AM. Sean and Jasmyn were in their housecoats (coffee in hand) and the kids were still asleep. I followed the Madden clan around their house for the next four hours. I documented everything from the kids waking up, to setting the table for breakfast to morning hygiene and receiving their allowance. In words, it might sound somewhat mundane. But I agree with Jasmyn in that it’s very important to document this stage of a family’s life. Life will speed up and pretty soon they’ll be graduating high school. The Madden family will have these images for a lifetime to look back at and remember their daily routine plus some fun family moments. I created a flush mount album (book) so they will have the photo story printed and bound forever.
Jasmyn was nice enough to write a review of my first Day in Life shoot to help me launch this type of photo session. Here is what she had to say: “We have worked with Aubrie and Capturing Grace Photography multiple times over the years and her images represent some of our family’s most cherished memories. Her Day in the Life session was easily one of our favorites. She came by our house early one Saturday and hung out with us for a few hours as we worked through our daily routine. We woke up, made breakfast, walked the dog, and picked up to head to the beach. Aubrie made the whole experience so comfortable and the results have exceeded our expectations. Our young children are growing quickly and having a perfect encapsulation of what it’s like to be with them at this stage in their lives is an incredible gift. Our final book shows the reality of our team, from the mundane to the silly to the quirks of each of us. We expect the book to live with us forever and be a treasured heirloom for our family.”
