Ah, I love morning light. I love fun new locations. And I love cute, candid families that adore one another. This photo session had all three elements so needless to say, I love it!
I was camping a few months ago at Stub Stewart State Park. We took a drive into Vernonia to have lunch and check out the town. There is a beautiful park there with a lake, lilypads, blue herons and an old cement Mill. I told my husband it would be a great spot for a photo session. About two weeks later Lanette emails me and asks if I have ever or would ever do a family session at the exact same park (Vernonia Lake). She saw the old mill with its graffitied walls and knew she wanted family photos there. I told her my story on how I was JUST there visiting and that I would LOVE to do a session at that location. We were both very excited.
We decided on a Saturday morning. When she asked me what time, I asked her what I ask everyone… what is the absolute earliest you could be there with smiles on your face? She left it up to me and I said 7:00 AM. She didn’t even hesitate and sure enough that car pulled up at 7 AM with five smiling faces. The kids, Abigail (8), Jude (6), August (5), and Clementine (3) we’re so excited for their photo shoot. They all had on different colors of Converses too! So adorable. The light was gorgeous…but it was chilly. The entire family fought the cold with Lanette cheering them on saying “we are strong!” They were troopers- and I know the early wake-up and fighting the chilly weather was worth it.
They walked, talked, jumped, ran, skipped, hugged and cuddled through the morning light. There were blue herons and other nature finds. And alas we made it to the Mill where the kids played and the parents kissed. (They were also celebrating their anniversary!) So many wonderful moments that made for a killer photo session.
Lanette & Marshall- I hope you had a great time and a wonderful anniversary. Your kids are amazing and it was a pleasure to be your photographer. I wish you the best of luck in Utah and I hope these images are the perfect parting gift that you’ll cherish for years to come. Enjoy!
